Hi guys,
I love improving houses and renovating. It is about putting my own touch on the house, it is fun and satisfying work. We also do it to save money, but honestly like everything in life why would i pay someone to do the job I can.
I would love to show off and post some before and after pictures ha ha, but also inspire others and share helpful tips.
I am not a professional house painter, but I learned a lot over the years.  I don't touch electricity or plumbing (even though I think i could...hmmm maybe once - joke electricity ha ha).
e owned one house before and I am proud to say that I touched every single corner in it (yes I even crawled under the stairs in the basement and painted the floor). Working on second (huuuge) house now.
My goal is always to do proper job (I pay attention to detail but don't want to be OCD), do the job in frugal way and with concern for environment (which is sometimes hard to combine).
I often think about what is important for us, prioritize and also think resale. Where to spend money and where to do it cheap.
Please continue reading and feel free to contact me if you have questions.

HACKS AND TIPS

Roller extender

Working with extender on your paint roller takes some practice but it saves time and sore muscles.
I prefer wood, for environmental reasons, I prefer to touch wood and for it's durability.
I broke both plastic extenders before I found this old wooden one at a thrift store.

Super spatula

This amazing spatula is one of my favorite tools. Yes you can open bottle of beer with it too :O).

Paint organizing tip

This is my way of having supplies organized and keeping surfaces clean. The box is free and can be recycled after I use it (usually it is pretty clean).

Pain brush

Pain brush and brush to clean it. Who knew, a gift from handy friend. It really does make difference!
Roller I can put in plastic bag between uses, but brushes I prefer to clean.

Drop cloth

Very practical tip when painting - use old sheets as drop cloth. I find fitted very practical especially for painting bathroom...

BATHROOM

Tub shelf

Here is a great idea for tub shelf. I like to have less in the tub, I designed this simple shelf. Large bottle on the bottom and small shelf on the top for a razor and a brush.
Just make sure the marble is sloping little bit forward.

Aging wood

This is a great anger management technique....I mean aging wood technique.
You can use any sharp objects and basically make holes in the wood. I like nails and chains.
You can refinish which ever way you like after. I use stain or paint then dark wax - which stays in holes.
I love using this method on furniture that has got old age look, but it just too new.
I also use it on pieces that have a few faults but they look like faults, once I age the whole piece it looks antique.
If you ever do too much (yes there is time when you need to stop sadly), you can use wood filler and fill the holes.

Old fashioned hinges

I just received these old fashioned hinges - with magnets! They are so cool looking. I got them for you garage door, but there are so many options. Very frugal way to update look of any door.

Sanding down wood - staircase

This is our staircase from house to a garage. It gets lots of heavy traffic. I decided to spruce it up a bit and before painting I sanded it down. I used this amazing sander that can be attached to vacuum cleaner. Amazing helper.

Drought proofing house

Here is a small tip how to be more energy efficient. We have many light switches in our kitchen and when it is freezing outside you can feel the cold air coming on. I purchased bunch of these foam protectors and it does make a huge difference.
They keep cool air in the house in the summer...
The proper name is: foam electrical outlet sealing gasket.
